If you sell on Amazon Seller Central, you are probably familiar with the process of manually downloading Seller retail analytics reports. Downloading your retail data as TXT or CSV files is the most common approach for sellers to do deep dives into performance.

Until recently, most sellers have been stuck with Amazon’s web-based Sales and Traffic interface. This means sellers have been manually downloading and managing hundreds or thousands of Amazon Seller Business reports spreadsheets for your sales dashboard. All the manual file download work has made reporting hard, expensive, and error-prone.

Amazon Automation For Seller Retail Analytics Reports

The days of manual downloads, so you can access key metrics in your traffic reports, are over! A recent Amazon Selling Partner API update now enables automated, code-free data pipelines for Sales and Traffic data.

The data provided by this report was previously only available on the Seller Central Business Reports site as a manual export. The new API offers faster and easier access to business data in your retail sales reports including date and ASIN granularity, scheduling of automatic report delivery, and deeper business insights to help sellers optimize their business.

What Are Amazon Business Reports: Sales and Traffic

If you are wondering how to see views on Amazon listing, Amazon seller page views, conversion rate, total sales, profit margins, unit session percentage, or how to check daily sales on Amazon, then these reports are a prime resource.

The API contains key sales performance metrics such as ordered product sales, revenue, units ordered, and claim amount, as well as page traffic metrics such as page views and feature offer percentage of the seller’s entire catalog items. The data is similar to what is provided in the Seller Central interface:

Why Automated Sales And Traffic Reports? Supercharging Amazon Seller Central Analytics

If you are one of those people manually creating reports using Excel or Google Sheets, you know it can be overwhelming to meet team or client expectations for quality, insights, and velocity using manual data processes.

There are three consistent challenges with manual workflows;

  • First, the manual downloading process can be slow, complex, and frustrating. A messy collection of report exports on someone’s laptop can be challenging to keep track of and analyze.
  • Second, manual sales report data-wrangling impacts service delivery to internal or client teams, not to mention impacting the bottom line.
  • Third, manual data wrangling can make it challenging to unify your data. Messy downloads make taking advantage of innovative traffic analysis tools like Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, Looker, Amazon QuickSight, or Google Data Studio challenging.

Manual data-wrangling seller report downloads increase costs and lead to risky errors. The best way to analyse Amazon business reports is with automation fueling these tools. The Selling Partner API automation turbocharges cost-efficiency and productivity with new levels of data automation.

What Can Data Be Automated?

What type of Amazon seller central business report data is available with report automation? The automated sales and traffic information is similar to the data you see in the Amazon interface. Amazon supplies three essential reports via its Selling Partner API;

  1. Detail Page Sales and Traffic By SKU
  2. Detail Page Sales and Traffic By Parent Item
  3. Detail Page Sales and Traffic By Child Item

For example, in detail page sales and traffic by child item, the data includes information like this;

  • Parent ASIN
  • Child ASIN
  • Title
  • Sessions — Total
  • Session Percentage — Total
  • Page Views — Total
  • Page Views Percentage — Total
  • Featured Offer (Buy Box) Percentage
  • Units Ordered
  • Units Ordered — B2B
  • Unit Session Percentage
  • Unit Session Percentage — B2B
  • Ordered Product Sales
  • Ordered Product Sales — B2B
  • Total Order Items
  • Total Order Items — B2B

The result of the automation will be three unified collections of data for SKU, Parent, and Child in your private, trusted data lake or cloud warehouse. See the Amazon business reports glossary for Sales and Traffic for additional information.

Report Timing

The time period for this data is set to DAILY (24-hour period UTC) for traffic reports. This means the data is refreshing from the API on a daily basis to your database. Detailed traffic sources are not part of this report. You may want to consider using Amazon Attribution for detailed external traffic attribution.

If you cross-reference reports across your seller account, you might notice discrepancies across the different report types. Discrepancies are due to the way data is pivoted and based on the purpose of the report. Business Reports will have a lag for a period of time around 24–48 hours when compared to other reports.
