How to download the Amazon Search Terms report?
Keep using manual file downloads or start using SP-API data automation?
Amazon search data can be a great way for Amazon Seller Central merchants to understand what customers are looking for and how they interact with your products. Here is how Amazon describes search terms data;
Discover what products are winning the most clicks and conversions on strategic search terms. Assess the impact of your marketing campaigns by monitoring trends.
The data provides a snapshot of search results, which can be used to refine your PPC campaigns, explore relevant keywords in a product description, how people can better find your product listings, or optimize keyword targeting in Amazon ads.
By utilizing the search term report, you get valuable data that helps you gain insight into search performance. You can then use this data in a variety of ways to increase sales and improve your competitive edge.
Thankfully Amazon makes this data directly available for download. There are two primary methods of downloading the search term report;
- The traditional approach of manually logging into Seller Central and downloading files.
- Leveraging the Amazon Selling Partner API for code-free, automated search term downloads to a unified data lake or cloud data warehouse.
With the API, the report is automated, meaning there is no need to manually log in and create report for download. It is fully automated.

How do you get access to these types of reports for search terms?
If you were attempting to manually download all departments and dates, this would result in over 200 Excel workbooks (.xlsx) or CSV files each sitting. If you did this once a week, in a month you would have over 800 files that represent close to 20 million rows of data. If you did this daily, over the course of a month you would have amassed over 6000 search term report downloads!
It can get tiring, cumbersome, and messy manually downloading and managing 100s of report downloads. Search reports are large, containing over a million rows make which can make using more than one report at a time time-consuming, expensive, and error-prone.
Options 1: Amazon Search Term Report Automation
The days of manual downloads to access keyword data are over! How can you avoid the messy, manual report download process? Tapping into the Amazon Selling API is a must for automating that workflow.
The Openbridge data connector leverages the Amazon SP-API for automated, code-free data pipelines of Amazon Search Term Reporting data.
Automation ensures your team will quickly get data critical to optimizing keyword selections, keyword discovery, product targeting, and sales lift.
- Unify search term data into industry-leading data destinations like Amazon Redshift, Amazon Redshift Spectrum, Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Azure Data Lake, and Amazon Athena.
- With search term data consolidated, use your favorite business intelligence, data visualization, SQL, or data science tools like Google Data Studio, Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, Looker, or Amazon Quicksight?
Option 2: Search Term Report Manual Download
If you are not ready to automate and want to manually download the data, Amazon allows you to log in to your account to request the report
To download the Amazon search report type, you’ll need to navigate to the “Reports” section in your Seller Central account.
- Go to Seller Central > Brands > Brand Analytics > Amazon Search Terms Report > Deptartment: Amazon.com
- Click “View Search Terms Report.”
- Click “Download Report” and save the CSV file to your computer.
Repeat this process for each department and the date range desired.
Open the CSV file in Excel or Google Sheets and sort by “Searched Keywords” to see which terms were searched on Amazon more than once during that period of time. The rows with more than one occurrence represent opportunities where customers were searching for similar terms but didn’t necessarily find them — and you can optimize your listing so that it shows up when they look!
The manual process done on a weekly basis can be grueling. A single report can have over a million rows. Attempting to do this on a daily basis is even more time-consuming.
Fusing multiple manually downloaded reports into a single Excel or CSV file will get messy, making reporting time-consuming, expensive, and error-prone. You will also quickly hit the limits of how much data can be imported into a single MS Excel or Google Sheets file.
